NA Selank Amidate is a chemically modified form of Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro). An acetyl group is added at the start of the peptide chain (N-acetyl) and the end is converted to an amide (amidate). End changes like these are commonly used in peptide chemistry to slow breakdown by enzymes. We found no peer-reviewed studies of this modified form, so its stability, targets and effects have not been measured directly. What is known comes from unmodified Selank, a seven-amino-acid peptide developed in Russia from tuftsin, a natural peptide involved in immune signalling. Selank has been studied in rodents (in rats it changed BDNF levels in the hippocampus) and in human blood samples (where it slowed the breakdown of enkephalins, the body's own opioid-like peptides). Its main human study, in 62 patients with anxiety disorders, was small and not placebo-controlled (Zozulia et al., 2008). Whether the modifications change any of these findings is unknown. Mechanism
No studies of NA Selank Amidate itself have been published, so its mechanism has not been measured directly. It is a modified form of Selank, which in laboratory studies slowed the breakdown of enkephalins in human blood samples and changed BDNF levels in rat brain tissue (Inozemtseva et al., 2008). Whether the N-acetyl and amide end groups change these properties is not known.
Storage and handling
- Sealed and lyophilised, store at 2 to 8°C away from light and moisture. Minus 20°C for longer.
- Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated and avoid repeated freeze and thaw cycles.
- Bacteriostatic water is the usual diluent. The volume added sets the concentration in mg per mL.
